Compostables

Approximately 40% of the average household’s waste in Metro Vancouver is compostable kitchen scraps and yard waste. Composting is a great way to reduce the amount of organic waste that ends up in the landfill. Composting turns organic waste into a valuable soil conditioner that improves the health of gardens.

Some municipalities now collect kitchen and yard waste at the curbside for composting. Contact the RCBC Recycling Hotline to find out if your municipality is one of them. Many municipalities also supply subsidized backyard or worm composters for their residents. For more information on composting, visit www.cityfarmer.org.
