Recyclopedia: Antifreeze

Antifreeze

As used antifreeze goes through an engine, it picks up heavy metals, such as lead, cadmium and chromium. The mixture of antifreeze and heavy metals is toxic to the environment and animals. Take your used antifreeze to a recycling depot so it doesn’t end up down the drain or in the trash.

Antifreeze and antifreeze containers are covered under a province-wide recycling program. These items can now be dropped off for free at participating retailers and automotive shops across the province. For more information on the program or to locate the nearest drop off location, call the RCBC Recycling Hotline or visit www.usedoilrecycling.com.
